Podgorica Airport is a practical starting point for the capital, Lake Skadar, Cetinje and routes toward northern Montenegro. Tivat Airport is closer to Kotor Bay, Budva, Luštica and much of the coast. In summer, travel time on coastal roads can increase, so choosing the airport nearest your accommodation often saves more time than comparing distance alone.

When booking, enter the real flight arrival time and flight number. Allow time for passport control and luggage, and tell us promptly if the flight changes. One-way pickup and return at different available locations may be possible when confirmed in advance.

A rewarding coastal route links Budva, Kotor, Perast and Herceg Novi. The distances look short, but old-town access, viewpoints, border traffic and summer congestion can make the day longer. Use a full day for Kotor Bay, start early and keep room in the schedule for parking.

Cars are useful for beaches and villages outside the main centres, while historic cores are best explored on foot. Never stop on a narrow carriageway for a photograph; use signed viewpoints and legal parking. For a calmer trip, divide the coast into two days and avoid changing accommodation at peak traffic hours.

Drive defensively and follow current road signs and speed limits. Mountain and coastal roads can be narrow, with sharp bends and limited shoulders. Leave extra distance, do not overtake without a clear view and reduce speed in rain or low visibility.

In Kotor, Budva and other popular towns, use marked public parking and keep the ticket or digital receipt. Do not rely on an empty roadside space unless signs permit parking. Fuel stations are common around main towns, but opening hours and availability vary on remote routes. Refuel before a mountain journey and return the vehicle with the fuel level agreed at handover.

Northern Montenegro rewards careful planning. Routes toward Žabljak, Durmitor and the Tara region include elevation changes, tunnels and winding sections. Check the weather and current road conditions before departure, download an offline map and allow daylight for unfamiliar roads.

Seasonal equipment requirements and temporary closures can change. Follow official instructions and do not enter a road closed by barriers or signs. Carry water, keep your phone charged and tell someone your route when travelling away from main roads. If conditions deteriorate, turn back or choose a lower and safer route rather than relying only on the navigation app.
